Applied Technologies Center located in Paso Robles, CA, designs, builds and manufactures oil industry technology products. Borehole surveying instruments (both gyroscopic and magnetic), MWD (measurement while drilling) systems, and production logging systems comprise the bulk of our products. Our sister company, Scientific Drilling International International (SDI), uses technology developed by ATC to provide services to the oil industry, including borehole surveying, wireline steering, MWD, production logging, and more. Engineering
Electronic Engineer I
Scientific Drilling is looking for an Electronic Engineer I to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will be responsible for designing and maintaining electronics components, circuits and systems for down-hole drilling and production applications and tools. This position will also design and develop electronic signal processing systems and implement through appropriate choice of hardware and firmware. Additionally, this position will establish and monitor performance and safety standards and procedures for operation, modification, maintenance and repair of such systems.
Responsibilities
  • Designs, documents and specifies electronic components, circuits and systems in support of Company's products and services
  • Develops apparatus and procedures to test electronic components, circuits and systems
  • Evaluates failed system scenarios to determine root-cause
  • Addresses customer and field service reliability and safety issues with timely engineering analysis and design solutions
  • Provides engineering support to manufacturing, production, and purchasing
  • Remote field work may be required to service customer; up to 20% domestic or international travel may be required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering or related field required
  • 1-3 years of related experience and/or recent graduate with applicable internship experience
  • Experience with low frequency (DC-100kHz) analog signal conditioning, analog to digital converters and digital to analog converters
  • DC-DC converter design, including magnetics design applications and support circuitry
  • Demonstrated capabilities of design execution and product production
  • 8051 & ARM based embedded controller applications; 12-24 bit ADC, DAC, analog MUX applications
Preferred Skills
  • Design experience for harsh operating environments
  • PRT Resistivity Tool experience a plus

Embedded Systems Engineer
Scientific Drilling is looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will be responsible for projects and work dedicated to designing, debugging and maintaining firmware. This position will work with internal customers and Engineering teams for feedback and process improvements.

Environmental Test Engineer
Scientific Drilling is looking for an Environmental Test Engineer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will coordinate with project managers and engineers to develop environmental test plans for emerging product testing. This position will also create and distribute reports of environmental testing results. Additionally, this position defines processes, tools, and best practices for environmental testing.
Responsibilities
  • Recommend and design appropriate environmental testing including design qualification and HALT.
  • Recommend acceleration model usage for temperature, humidity, vibration, voltage, and current.
  • Statistically analyze failure rates and field/warranty data.
  • Determine confidence levels and/or requirements to meet expected confidence levels.
  • Identify appropriate environmental testing and calibration standards and ensure program compliance.
  • Familiarity with transducer instrumentation, data collection, and signal processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with electro-dynamic shakers and pneumatic HALT chambers.
Qualifications
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related to vibration, temperature, and shock testing.

Industrial Engineer
Scientific Drilling is looking for an Industrial Engineer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will assist in refining, upgrading, and modifying engineering processes and systems to promote efficiency, effectiveness, and knowledge management. Additionally, this position helps tie multiple data sources together to apply data more effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Communicates effectively with Engineers, Management, and IT professionals to frame and solve integrated problems
  • Performs statistical analysis to quantify problems
  • Identifies and presents management with high value reliability and other engineering problems based on data and business analysis through reports, presentations, and other professional communication mediums
  • Performs other operations research and analysis required
  • Acts as a liaison with manufacturing for product, process, or data support

Mechanical Engineer
Scientific Drilling is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will be responsible for general engineering knowledge and mechanical expertise to research and develop solutions for use in our down-hole oil drilling and production applications and tools. This position will work within a multidisciplinary team to research and develop new component technologies, mechanical packaging techniques, materials, and other relevant mechanical solutions. This position will help identify and clearly define mechanical problems to drive new and innovative solutions; develop and document mechanical design concepts into releasable drawings; and contributes to the planning, design, execution, and reporting of lab and field feasibility experiments.

Software Engineer
Scientific Drilling is looking for a Software Engineer to work at our Technology Park location in San Luis Obispo, CA. This position will be responsible for developing software solutions to support a range of Rich Client Applications and/or web-based applications to assist with the acquisition, interpretation and management of data.
Responsibilities
  • Develops clear, concise, robust and maintainable designs, code and user interfaces to deliver business value to the end users
  • Develops unit and integration tests that can be used to adequately regression test the expectations and behaviors advertised or relied on by components of the software
  • Monitors overall development progress and works to mitigate issues
  • Clearly communicates issues and concerns with other team members including project stakeholders and team lead
Qualifications

Systems Verification Engineer
Scientific Drilling is looking for a Systems Verification Engineer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will be responsible for establishing engineering test requirements, define test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for each application. This role will work closely with both internal and external customers as well as the Product Development teams.
Responsibilities
  • Works closely with both customers and Product Development to establish engineering testing requirements, define test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for each application.
  • Develops test automation for GUI, browser based applications or tool-specific (firmware) applications by using either currently existing testing tools or developing proprietary tools to automate testing.
  • Works with Product Development and Product Management to define, research, correct, and retest defects.
  • Performs manual and automated tests based on the test specification and report test results in a formal way.
  • Designs and implements infrastructure and test scripts for automated tests.

Electronics Technician
Scientific Drilling is looking for an Electronics Technician to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will work as part of a team to test and troubleshoot electronics and instruments according to written guidelines, including troubleshooting test failures and write testing reports. This position will utilize tools and processes related to common electronic components such as current, voltage, and electrical resistance.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Associates Degree in Electronics a plus
  • 1-2 years experience working with electronics
  • Manual Dexterity and ability to use common hand tools is a plus
  • Experience with soldering tools and techniques a plus
Mechanical Assembler
Scientific Drilling is looking for a Mechanical Assembler to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position will be responsible for the assembly of fabricated parts to complete tools and units according to product specifications using a variety work tools and machinery. This position will follow blueprints, work instructions and wiring diagrams to assemble the tools and mechanical devices.

Operations Support
Technology Transfer Group Engineer
Scientific Drilling is looking for a Technology Transfer Group Engineer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. This position is responsible for the safe execution of tests, training and support operations at SDI field and office worksites worldwide. Additionally, this position works with Project Managers and Technical Product Champions to develop field tests and objectives which adequately qualify products for general field operation.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for preparation of equipment prior to field tests and jobs, including work with operations and engineering to ensure all equipment is available in the correct location and on-time.
  • Executes tests in the field or lab in accordance with stated test objectives, and assists in defining test objectives.
  • Completes follow-up of all tests, including collection of all relevant data. Feedback all information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Creates post-test reports and analysis.
  • Provides field-level analysis of test results or objectives. Provides experience and insight towards satisfaction of these goals.
  • Provides on-the-ground technical training to operations personnel on the safe and correct use and application of new products and technologies.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned commercial jobs are performed with the highest level of precision and correctness and service quality within Scientific Drilling.
  • Works with technical writing department to create documentation and/or procedures for operations use.
  • Provides 24-hour coverage to field jobs as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field, or 4 years of equivalent experience
  • Ability to travel globally up to 60% of the time.
