Application Procedure

Darlington School's hiring needs are normally not determined until the end of February or early March. During this time frame, we will have a clearer picture of availability and will begin our search process.

Faculty Duties

    Teaching:
    • Five (5) classes
    • Coach class
    • Two (2) preparations
    • Class preparation–often 2 hours nightly
    • Grades due every four (4) weeks
    • Substituting in department
    • Comments written on students three (3) times annually
    • Advising students (6-10)
    After-School Duties
    • Coaching or Lifetime Fitness
    Dormitory Duties (if hired as residential faculty)
    • Once every seven (7) days approximately (weekends as well as weekdays)
    Assorted Duties:
    • Weekend/campus activities
    • Monthly faculty meetings
    • Committee meetings
    • Ticket duty
    • Admissions duties
    • Parents Weekend
    • Dance duty

Bookstore Manager

The Book Store Manager is responsible for the purchasing, selling and tracking of all e-books, school books, school uniforms and merchandise that is sold in the Book Store.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Responsible for staffing the Book Store each school day from 8:00 to 2:30, and other times as needed for special events to assist students, faculty, family and visitors.
  • Responsible for working with publishers, IT and teachers to continue the school wide move to e-book technology.
  • Responsible for communicating with outside book vendors on all books which will be used for the up-coming school year, including the ordering of all teacher materials.
  • Directly responsible for overseeing the return of all new or unused books by students back to the outside book vendor.
  • Responsible for maintaining a small inventory of all books throughout the school year.
  • Responsible for the designing and purchasing of merchandise and clothing apparel.
  • Prepares a monthly report of all day and resident student Book Store charges.
  • Responsible for updating the darShop website as well as filling on-line orders.
  • Also willing to provide additional assistance to the Business Office as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of E-books preferred
  • Applicant must have good people skills and be able to handle any customer service issues with a good attitude
  • Experience with general accounting and account reconciliation
  • Retail experience preferred

Part-time Spanish 1 Teacher, Upper School

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Teach two sections of Spanish 1 in the 2013-14 school year, primarily 9th graders
  • Demonstrates a commitment to improving student learning both inside the classroom and out
  • Uses strategies and creates learning opportunities that address unique and disparate learning styles
  • Provides multiple methods of assessment that demonstrate knowledge, skill, and understanding
  • Integrates technology for professional and classroom use
  • Develops a plan of professional growth and development that fosters life-long learning
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues and parents
  • Promotes a positive, supportive, and collaborative school culture
  • Creativity in lesson-planning and curriculum development
Qualifications:
  • Willingness to model the distinct mission of Darlington School
  • Undergraduate degree in Spanish; graduate degree in Spanish preferable (but not required)
  • Significant experience in a Spanish-speaking culture preferable
  • Ability and willingness to participate in school life outside of the classroom if needed (coaching, sponsoring clubs, etc.)
  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • A deep understanding and love for adolescents
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and willingness to work as team player
  • Comfort with on-going improvement and change
