Managing Director with unusual professional outlook

Our client is interested in interior design professionals with a glass-half-full view of life. Their Dallas office is in need of a leader who can easily see the potential of the position, isn’t afraid of hard work, and is mature enough to embrace all of the responsibilities associated with a start-up practice without feeling like others should do the unglamorous tasks.  Success will be rewarded well.

The advantages of this position are a strong, established national brand with an outstanding portfolio and top-of-the line clients … mostly corporations and professional services firms. The infrastructure of a national, multi-office firm (e.g. human resources, financial management, marketing) is part of the package.  The challenges are limited visibility and profile in the past in the Dallas area and a rather small (but talented and eager) staff.

The successful candidate will get significant commitment of assistance and support from the firm:  the leadership team wants Dallas to succeed, recognizing the potential of the Dallas market.  At the same time, the leaders are not micromanagers:  you will be responsible for making decisions and implementing them.   Above all, they seek an entrepreneur.  Many design firms say this, but here is what this firm means:

-     Understanding of what it takes to build a design practice
-     Familiarity with managing a P/L statement
-     Utter commitment to client service
-     Recognition that great design is an important ingredient, but not the only ingredient
-     Confidence without cockiness
-     Established relationships in the Dallas market and an idea of how an interior design

practice can serve it with distinction
-     Respect for and comfort with accountability

If you are a person who has been trained in either architecture or interior design, and have a strong body of work in the corporate sector and the ability to point to evidence of your leadership, you may see this as a next step that is unavailable to you in your current position.  If you feel like you are ready to embrace as challenges what others may see as problems, send your resume in confidence to susanfaigen@breuerconsulting.com.
